Sleeping separately

Well, the Deety-bug has become quite the crib hog. He frogs it all over his bed, usually ending up jammed against the crib railings, which infuriates him no end. Sophie is still staying in mostly the same position I leave her in. But that means that they are now officially sleeping in their own cribs, since I can't trust that Deet won't accidentally pull the blankets over Sophie's head or something.
He eats more, even though he's still a little smaller, and sleeps better. She's alert much more than he is, more interactive, and has much better head control. They are very much their own little persons - I don't think they look alike or act alike at all. It's not like having duplicates of one baby - it's just two babies at the same time. Does that make sense?

Minor brag

This is the first big(ish) project I've ever completed. It was a gift for Heather, my Christmas swap partner from a board we both frequent. It really wasn't hard - just a little fiddly because I had to crochet two strands together and the metallic yarn was just evil to work with. But it was very satisfying to finally finish it!

Playing together

Gabby put the infant bath in the laundry basket and then got Zoe to lie down in it and prayed with her. Picture her bowing her head and holding Zoe's hand and praying earnestly:
"Sank you for Daddy to help us get trash out to dumpster and sank you for glow bears and sank you for dis afternoon and amen. Go to sleep now, Zoe!"

She's telling Zoe it's a hospital now and she's going to take care of her. She's gently stroking her face and telling her to close her eyes. "You not feeling good, so try to rest, okay? This is your hospital and I'm goin' take care of you. Stay in your bed!"

Zoe says, "I sleepy!" as she's rubbing her eyes. Gabby's pushing her all over the living room in the laundry basket.

Gabby: "Okay, it's time to get up! Get out now!"
Zoe: "No, I sleepy."

Merry Christmas!

What a nice day we had! Other than Zoe melting down and being a complete toad this morning, that is.
The girls slept a little late, which was appreciated, but it meant I slept a little too late and didn't get the sticky biscuits going when I intended to. So while they were baking, we opened presents.
Gabby and Zoe got some neat stuff - two helicopters for Gabby, which thrilled her to her little toes. A stuffed spider in crazy colors for Zoe, which thrilled HER to her toes. An adorable stuffed lamb for Gabby from Grandpa.
My favorite gift was my King Arthur Flour Baker's Companion, crammed chockfull of recipes and cooking/baking tips and advice. That was from Erich. He informed me that it wasn't an entirely altruistic gesture - more of an investment on his part. ;o) I also got a neat grater/zester set from my father in law, which was promptly put to excellent use on the sweet potatos.
Erich got a flashlight from his dad, a book from me (Get Fuzzy - he's been snorting and howling with laughter all afternoon), a wall plaque with a sappy sentiment from me, and my favorite gift to him: a t-shirt that shows a policeman looking officious, with the slogan, "Obey gravity; IT'S THE LAW." Heh heh...
Allie came over and spent the afternoon with us, and we greatly enjoyed her company. She's always fun to have around, and she just adores the twins and is very good with them.
All in all, it was a blessed, peaceful, relaxing day and we had a very nice time.

Milestone

Sophie smiled at me last night! Mum was watching her for me while Allie and I went to a movie (Eragon; don't waste your money) and when I got home and picked Sophie up, she gradually woke up, looked up and saw my face, and flashed me the sweetest little smile.

Who needs a pacifier when you've got a twin?

Personalities

Well, their personalities are definitely developing. Deet is very quiet, still somewhat reserved and not as developed as Sophie. He tends to curl in on himself when he's held, like he was in my womb. Sophie, on the other hand, has the cutest way of stretching and arching her back as far as it will go. She sleeps like a cat - wherever she's draped.
She is calm and quiet like her brother, but does have a touch of drama about her - not nearly as much as Gabby, though. (Thank you, Lord! LOL)
Deet hates baths. The first time I put him in the sink, his foot touched water and he flung his little arms as wide as they would go, grabbing on to the drainrack and holding on for dear life. Poor wee boy does NOT like being wet! He has to have baths, though, because he has a bad diaper rash that we're fighting and he MUST be gotten clean.
Sophie loves baths. The second I put her in she gets quiet and happy and just gurgles and coos to herself while she's getting washed.
Both of them love being with. They're cuddle fiends - they're happy if they're being held. Sophie is snoozing on my chest as I write this, in fact. She's about to be put down for a nap with her brother, and I expect she'll complain for awhile, but they're both so pragmatic that when a few minutes crying gets them nowhere, they simply give up and go to sleep.
They are so much fun!
P.S. Update an hour later: Sophie went right down without waking up. The Deetybug was awake when I went in to put Sophie down, but fell asleep within moments of having his sister next to him. They've both been asleep for an hour without so much as a peep from either one. :o)

Update

We're doing really well. Sophie and Deet are both spectacularly sweet and easy children, very snuggly and lovable and very pragmatic and easy-going. Sophie's a touch more aggressive in general - has no problems latching on and nursing vigorously (um, ow Shocked), while Deet is smaller and quieter and still struggles to latch on properly. He's getting better and better as he grows, but it's still a bit tricky at 3 am.

Sophie, being stronger overall, has more alert periods where she just watches the world go on around her and takes it all in. When she's had enough, she just quietly drifts back off to sleep - neither she nor Deet see any need to fuss just because they're tired. Hungry? Dirty diaper? Sure, they'll complain. But if they're tired, they simply go to sleep - they don't make a racket about it. Which means A) I don't have to soothe them to sleep, which is nice for me, and B) they're often wide awake in their crib and we don't even realize it because they're so quiet. Smile

Gabby and Zoe LOVE their babies. We haven't had any jealousy issues, although Zoe's slightly more fractious these days. But towards the babies themselves, they both show nothing but love.

And hey, I've discovered a GREAT weight-loss plan! Anytime you want to lose weight fast, just breastfeed twins! I've lost about 35 pounds so far, and I'm already 5 pounds under my pre-pregnancy weight. Woohoo! Laughing

As far as housing goes, we DID get a 3 bedroom apartment - signed the lease a couple of days ago. We can't move in yet because the previous tenants has 384 pack a day smoking habit and the place REEKS. Rolling Eyes It's a very small place - tiny bedrooms and a very shallow living room and the World's Smallest Kitchen, but it has a playground right outside the back door with a swingset, slide and merry-go-round, and the high school track is just beyond that, so I can go walking hopefully!

If you're wondering about the Christmas capped smilies, I copied and pasted this from another board that wanted an update. I had no idea they'd translate over, but I think they're cute. ;o)
