Reactions

The girls' reactions to Daddy being bald were quite hilarious. He whipped his hat off and Gabby's eyes went huge, she fell back in her chair and covered her mouth with her hands. Zoe's eyes went huge too, and she started yelling, "Hat! Back on! Hat! Back on!! Pwease!" He put his hat back on and she breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Kankum."

Later she cuddled with him and rubbed his head and said, "Nice hair, Daddy." So it looks like it won't scar them for life.

Fun with clippers

Look who let me loose with a pair of clippers!

With stubble, my favorite.

Smooth as a bowling ball!

And no post about Erich would be complete without a picture of him being a goofball!

That was way too much fun...

You'd think I'd be used to it by now...

What with these two being my third and fourth kids, but Deet turned over for the first time and I'm as giddy as a schoolgirl! ;D
He kept crying and crying, so I went in and found him on his back, all furious because he couldn't get back to sleep. I picked him up and went in and asked Erich, "Did you put him on his back when you put him to bed?" It being 3:30 in the morning, all I got was a confused mumble from the poor guy, but I eventually figured out it was a denial.
This morning when I got the Deety-bug up, he was on his back again, and later I put him on a mat on the floor, and being the obsessed mother that I am, got a video of him rolling over yet again.
I suppose there are worse things to get excited over.
;)
And here is the video, for those interested!

Uuuuuuugh....

That's about what this entire family is saying, the past few days. Gabby, the little over-achiever, was the first to come down with whatever it is we've got, then Zoe, not to be outdone, followed right behind. Sniffling, sneezing, sore throat, runny nose, achiness, the whole 9 yards. I started catching it, but I'm doing my best to fend it off with silver, which is helping, thankfully. It's at least keeping me functional, which is good because Erich got hit hard and he's been catatonic most of the day. The twins have the sniffles, but that's thankfully the extent of it so far.
In the meantime, we have an addition to the family. The other day, I was sitting in the living room minding my own business when a flicker of movement caught the corner of my eye. I looked over and what do I behold but a tiny white mouse trundling along the floor by the wall! After the initial shock of A) finding a MOUSE inside my house and B) it being white, therefore clearly not wild (so where on earth did it come from and how did it end up in MY house??), I gathered up my wit, 2 pieces of paper and a plastic bin. Armed with these weapons, I sallied forth to do battle. The mouse zigged, I zagged. It tried to run up the paper and bounced off my hand. It ran behind the swing and cowered behind the carseat sitting in the corner. (Meanwhile, Sophie, in the swing, was staring in bemusement at her mama bobbing and weaving all over the place.) I finally cornered the little rodent and forced her inside the bin. She was pretty slow, leading me to believe that she is either A) sick, B) ancient, C) tame, and D) all of the above. However, a few grains of rice later, she perked up and started cleaning herself. It's now been four days - she is firmly ensconced in her plastic bin, where she's made herself a nice little nest out of shredded paper and shavings, and she is quite tame; she sits in my hand quietly when I clean her cage. She rejoices in the unlikely name Seelix, and the girls are entranced by her. We think that she was dumped by the recently evicted tenants next door. Being domesticated, the poor little thing couldn't made a go out of it out in the wild - honestly, it's impressive she made it inside our house unscathed, since there are umpteen cats that hang around our doors, hoping for handouts. (The fact that I put out scraps occasionally has nothing to do with that, I'm sure.)

And now for something completely different:

Sophie laughed!

Very first time! I was sitting on the edge of my chair with Sophie on my left knee while Gabby was dancing around like a mad thing. When she whirled into Sophie's line of vision, Sophie suddenly let out the most adorable gurgle of laughter! So of course that inspired Gabby to more heights of silliness, and the more she twirled and jumped, the more Sophie giggled and cooed.
I love these milestones! :o)

And a picture of Deet in full grin, captured a few nights ago.

Birthday pictures are coming soon, I promise!

In the meantime, here are a few random images to keep you going.

I'm an idiot

And here's the proof.

Our tub has recently started backing up, so Erich dumped half a bottle of Drano down it today, set a timer for an hour, and admonished me to pour lots of hot water down the drain once the timer went off. Not really listening, I agreed, and he left for work.

Some time later, the timer went off. I silenced it and went back to my book. 15 minutes later, I squeaked in dismay, jumped up and ran in the bathroom and started the water in the sink running to get it as hot as I could. Then I dithered around trying to find a container large enough to pour water down the drain. I finally decided on two big cups from the kitchen; I ran and got them and proceeded to fill and dump huge cupfuls one after the other down the bathtub drain.

It wasn't until I was done that it occurred to me that I could have just used the flexible showerhead and saved myself a lot of legwork.

Allie's not the only fritterhead in the family!

Why is it...

That of everyone who supposedly reads my blog, my husband is the one most persistent in asking me when I'm going to update it next? Here he is, being regaled by our daily life every time he comes home from work, and yet he's the only one complaining that I'm not keeping up with my blog.
Hrmz.
There are a few people who say they read this, but I think that's not true. I haven't had a comment on anything in what, a month? I feel like a voice crying in the wilderness.
