Reassurance from a 4 year old

Erich asked for some popcorn, and of course Gabby immediately wanted some too. I was reluctant because I knew a lady who lost her 2 year old son when he choked on some popcorn. :o( I told Erich this, and we agreed that Zoe was too young for popcorn, but we would give some to Gabby before Zoe got up, as long as she was careful as she ate it.

So Gabby's sitting in her high-chair, happily munching away. Halfway through, she stopped and told me, "I'm eating careful, Mama, so I don't die. Don't worry!"

Ackshully...

That's Zoe's new word. We took the trash out this afternoon and Erich (on duty) saw us and swung by in his cruiser. Zoe asked, "What's that?" (Her favorite phrase.) Erich said, "That's my car!" Zoe nodded and said gravely, "It's Zoe's car, ackshully."

Observations by a 2 year old

Zoe came thundering through the living room, slappa slappa slappa of bare feet on the floor, and as she passed me she flung over her shoulder, "I runnin'!"
She went pounding into the kitchen, and abruptly stopped. The room got very quiet, and then a small voice, "I stopped runnin'."

Thanks for the updates, kid - keep me posted!

Deetcentric!

"I don't care who holds the bottle, as long as that nipple is in my mouth."

"Is there food any time in my future?"

"I didn't mean THIS kind of food! Are you trying to kill me?"

This is a boy who loves his daddy. He just lights up when Erich comes into view, and he loves nothing more than to snuggle with him for as long as possible.

"Aaaah! Mama's tickling me!"

Sophie Central!

Sophie has made periscoping an art.

She also finds ways to amuse herself in bed when no one's around to entertain her.

Jaws theme here, please. Da-dum. Da-dum. Da-DUM!

When she is awakened from a deep sleep, she resembles an angry baby owl. She wakes up very sweetly, but she is all blinky and groggy and looks quite annoyed until the sleep fog clears.

"Hush, brother, I'm trying to make a point here!"

"Yay! These jeans only cost $1.99!"

She is a surprisingly unphotogenic child - I get countless pictures of her and find it hard to capture what a stunningly beautiful child she is. Every once in awhile I get lucky, though.

Pictures aplenty

My ever so handsome young man, with the huuuuuge cranium! (Just means there's lots of brains in there!)

My ever so handsome somewhat older man, the love of my life, with our adorable daughter (a friend who saw this picture said it looks like she's trying to be as cool as her daddy!)

The girls still love to dance. Gabby loves to pick Zoe up and twirl her around, which usually ends with them both in a heap on the floor, giggling hysterically.

Deet has an oral fixation (what baby doesn't?), and he loves chewing on the Princess Fish. That's Gabby holding him.

Deet is master at getting himself into...interesting...situations. I came in to get him up and found him like this, so hard-hearted mama that I am, I rushed back out to get the camera. He calmly watched me go, and waited patiently for me to come back and extricate him.

Back in business!

Whew! After much angst, I managed to get with Erich and together we figured out the password to this blog, so here I am, back again. The MySpace page was far too difficult for everyone to view, so y'all can just scrap that web address and go with this one again. I don't *think* I'll forget the password any more.

So anyway, the twinfants are rapidly growing out of the twinfant stage. They're both rolling both ways, both grabbing stuff, Sophie is doing very well at gumming stuff to death once she gets it in her hand, while Deet is content so far to hold stuff and stare at it. I gave a crust of bread to Sophie this afternoon while we were eating, and she had a wonderful time mangling it (and slobbering all over my shirt in the process). She's not big on solid foods, but I've discovered that she's a savory kind of kid, rather than sweet. I was eating Fritos a few days ago, and she kept trying to suck on my fingers, so I let her. Her eyes flew wide when she tasted the salt, and she suddenly started sucking with great interest. After that, every time I picked up a Frito, nothing would do but that she suck the salt off my fingers afterwards. And she loved the bread this afternoon, but give the girl sweet potatos and I get this reaction.

The half shut eye is a dead giveaway that she's revolted by the very IDEA of sweet potatos, thankyouverymuch. Deet's reaction was even funnier:

So I'm thinking it's back to the drawingboard in terms of feeding them solids for a little while yet.
