Zoe funny

I asked Zoe if she wanted a sandwich. She shook her head vehemently and said, "No!" Then she thought about it and amended her statement: "No, ma'am." "No sandwich?" I asked. "No, ma'am," she answered. I said, "Okay honey, what DO you want to eat?"
"Sammich!" sez she.
Made her a cream cheese and strawberry jam sandwich and she happily devoured the entire thing.
I don't pretend to know what goes on inside that head of hers!

My piratical daughter

The deer in the headlights gaze in this last picture is because the picture I took right before, Gabby's eyes were closed. So the next time around, she gave me wide open eyes to make sure it didn't happen again. :o)

Zoe

Yesterday I had a bad attack and was in severe pain when I got Zoe up in the morning. She saw the tears on my face and said, "You hurtin'?" I said I was, and she said, "I sowwy!", reached up her arms and said, "Cuddo." She comforted me for a few minutes and then was ready to start the day. A little while later she was in the high chair and the pain just got to be too much to bear, and I put my head down for a minute so she wouldn't see me crying. She reached out and rubbed my hand and said, "Be bwave."

I was putting Gabby to bed one night and discovered she had muzzled her Pony. Maybe he was talking too much?

If one more person...

says, "Oh, you have your hands full!" on seeing me with the twins, I'm going to drop-kick them into the middle of next week.
If one more person says, "Aww, a boy and a girl, that's great! Now you're done!" I'm going to sweetly point out that we're aiming for an even dozen.
If one more person says, "Wow, twins, I wouldn't want that for the world," I'll say, "Then I guess it's good that I've got them and you don't!"

Okay, so you know I really won't, but I sure would like to sometimes. All three of the above comments were said to me TODAY ALONE while out shopping with the babies. The "hands full" one is by far the most prevalent, and I wish I had a witty comeback for it.
I know most people mean well, and I make sure I always smile and thank them for their comments, but yargh! It gets a little tiresome sometimes, especially the assumption that a) I've got only two kids and b) it's a boy and a girl, so poof! Insta-family. No more kids for me. I happen to love children. I especially love children belonging to me. I firmly believe that "children are like arrows in the quiver of a righteous man", and every single one is a blessing. And you can never have too many blessing. ;o)

On a completely unrelated note, Gabby has the cutest pronunciation for the word "nearly": she says it "near-yez". Not sure where that came from, but I wanted to record it for posterity before I forgot.

Intuitive child

Gabby never ceases to amaze me with her intelligence. The other day she was watching her favorite ballet; at one point in it, the main dancers hug each other, then she runs off through a forest of the other dancers. He follows her and gets in the middle of the troupe while she comes out the other side. Gabby was dancing around while she watched, but when this happened, she said, "She's lost and he's trying to find her."
Good grief - I've watched this with her a dozen times and never really picked up on that! Okay, granted, I haven't exactly watched it closely, but still! She's not even 4 yet!

She's watching VeggieTales right now, and some of the French peas were onscreen. She said, "Aww, look at those sweet peas!" No honey, they're French peas. Hehe..

Another milestone

Deet smiled at me yesterday! :o) I leaned over and looked into his eyes while putting my hand on his head, and he looked up, focused on my face for a second, and then recognition blossomed in his eyes and he gave me the most beautiful smile. It transformed his face, too - I just thought he was gorgeous before! ;o)
Since then, it's like he's figured out how to do it, and I've gotten several more, slightly smaller, smiles from him. If I can get him to focus on my face, he'll give me a gorgeous toothless grin almost immediately.
I just love these little milestones that don't mean much to anyone else - to me, they're the world!

We took Deet and Sophie both to the doctor's office today to get them weighed - the nurses said we could as long as we let them hold the babies as much as they wanted. ;o) So they played Musical Baby and passed the two of them around, but eventually they got weighed. Hold on to your hat - Deet weighs 11 pounds, 14 ounces! And Sophie weighs 11 pounds, 10 ounces! I still can't believe he actually weighs more than she does! For all we're still struggling with nursing, I think it's safe to say he's definitely getting enough to eat! :o)
